Mamatha Ananth, M.D., F.A.A.P.
General Pediatrician
Dr. Mamatha Ananth was born and raised in Bangalore, India. She graduated from Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences of Bangalore University. During medical school, she developed a deep love for working with children. She saw personally that children who grew up with proper nurture and care, the most fundamental form of that being access to healthcare, grew into strong adults, both physically and mentally.
In 1993, she took the next step in her medical journey with a pediatric residency at Rush Presbyterian Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. After completing residency, in pursuit of a pediatric nephrology fellowship at Tulane University, she moved to the New Orleans area which has since become her home.
Over the next 20 years, she focused on becoming a strong clinician by gaining pediatric experience that ranged from the care of children in both in-patient and out-patient settings to working in the emergency room. In 2011, she joined LSU New Orleans and was a teaching faculty member with the Department of Pediatrics and Family Medicine. In this role, she enjoyed being able to share her experience and knowledge with the next generation of physicians. During this time, she was the Director of the Newborn Nursery at Our Lady of Angels Hospital located in Bogalusa, Louisiana, where she took care of the majority of both well and sick newborns in partnership with the local area neonatologists.
Dr. Ananth strongly promotes healthy lifestyle with a focus on breast feeding, nutritious diet, and the importance of exercise. She also believes in the importance of reading and early education. “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” is reflected in the attention she pays to well care, immunizations, and injury prevention. She holds a deep connection to her community here in Louisiana and has spearheaded a forum on STI prevention in local schools initialized in Washington Parish.
On a personal note, Dr. Ananth lives on the Northshore with her husband. She has two children who live in the northeast and are pursuing their dreams. She thoroughly enjoys the company of her third child, her dog Cocoa. In her spare time she enjoys walking, riding her bike, or reading near Lake Ponchartrain.
